We are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Specialist to join the Public Affairs Directorate within the U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command. This role is ideal for a strategic communicator with a passion for visual storytelling, particularly through video production, who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Salary Range

Full salary range for this position is $159,000 to $173,000 per year, with the starting salary determined based on candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the duties listed below

  • Strategic Communications Planning:
    Support long-term strategic planning and future operations by developing integrated communication campaigns aligned with SSC’s mission and enterprise-wide objectives.

  • Multichannel Campaign Execution:
    Leverage a variety of communication platforms—including conferences, media relations, social media, internal events, websites, articles, and especially video—to deliver compelling and synchronized messaging.

  • Video Production Leadership:
    Serve as producer/director for video content. Responsibilities include storyboarding, scripting, directing, editing, and ensuring final products meet industry standards and strategic intent.

  • Content Development:
    Research, draft, and edit speeches, articles, and testimony related to SSC’s missions, operations, and initiatives. Ensure all content is accurate, engaging, and aligned with AP style.

  • Message Integration:
    Coordinate with HQ USSF, SSC, and partner organizations to ensure consistent messaging across all internal and external communications.

  • Quality Assurance & Analysis:
    Provide assessments and feedback to ensure all communication products meet high-quality standards and strategic goals.

  • Graphic & Multimedia Support:
    Create and integrate graphics and multimedia elements to enhance communication materials.

  • Editorial Review:
    Review and refine submissions from other staff to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with SSC’s communication style and objectives.

  • Compliance & Coordination:
    Ensure all deliverables are cleared for public release and comply with government approval protocols.

Education, Requirements and Qualifications

  • US citizen with an active secret security clearance is required.

  • Ten plus (10+) years of experience.

  • MA/MS degree.

    • Twelve (12) years' work experience may be subsituted for master's degree
    • Bachelor's degree plus eight (8) years work experience may be substituted for a master's degree.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Example lifting in excess of 25 lbs, standing for long periods of time, traveling across base regularly, transporting equipment, etc.
